What an unpleasant surprise yesterday to wake up, slurp my coffee, and check out the latest on youMashTube...

...but youMashTube.com was nowhere to be found!

After an initial panic (nearly spilling my coffee) I found the culprit- our domain name registrar NameCheap was hit with a big DoS attack that blew out their DNS system, and left them unable to forward domain requests to our servers. So while our servers were just fine, anyone attempting to go to youmashtube.com just couldn't get there...

A DoS attack is a denial of service attack, which is basically a space-age cyberwar tactic where an angry ( or well-paid ) hacker sends sooo many requests to a company to effectively shut down their servers. If you're curious, read more on Wikipedia.

So apologies for the inconvenience, but afraid to say there wasn't much we could do about this one. Just glad we're back on track :)

This is an exciting moment for us. Seeing as a third of our traffic is coming from South America (and the youMashTube Español facebook group has over 100 members now), it seemed like an obvious priority to make the site accessible in Spanish.

Yesterday youMashTube passed 1000 pageviews, less than one week after launching!

We're seeing visits from people all over the world, including the US, Chile, Taiwan, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Uruguay, Netherlands, Spain & Egypt.

A special shoutout goes to Chile- over one third of our visitors are Chilean! Many thanks to our Spanish Collaborator Luis Catrilef for getting the word out from Santiago to Valdivia.

To recognize the importance of our Chilean visitors, we'll be launching a Spanish version of youMashTube very shortly. Stay tuned...

Ayer youMashTube paso 1000 páginas, menos de una semana después del lanzamiento!

Estamos viendo visitas de personas de todo el mundo, incluidos los EE.UU., Chile, Taiwán, Canadá, Arabia Saudita, Indonesia, Uruguay, Holanda, España y Egipto.

The turbulence: We experienced a small issue with our server today between 12pm-2:30pm PST that caused youMashTube to appear completely jumbled.

All issues have been resolved and we apologize for any confusion this may have caused!

The upside: Users browsing with Internet Explorer may have noticed a strange issue where certain text would mysteriously disappear- this has also been resolved :)

On Wednesday evening, the long-awaited moment came: A crowd of supporters at El Rio SF gathered for free drinks, a short speech, and to cheer in the launch of youMashTube!

After a short demonstration of how to use YouTube's Quicklist to make a playlist, I gave a quick overview of our faster and more robust alternative. Then, with an 'user-generated' drumroll, I flipped the switch and youMashTube.com went live!
